This is a focused opportunity to provide support to biomedical researchers investigating minority health and health disparities in Hawaii. The Ola HAWAII CoreBucks program will provide limited funding (up to $5000) for basic, translational, clinical, or behavioral research projects to utilize services or resources from the Research Capacity Core's six Support Facilities (http://ola.jabsom.hawaii.edu). The goal of the CoreBucks program is to aid the generation of preliminary data that will increase the competitiveness of Hawaii's investigators for Ola HAWAII pilot proposals and other extramural funding.
APPLICATION DUE DATE: Rolling applications accepted through Ola HAWAII's website:
REVIEW PERIOD: Reviewed monthly by the Ola HAWAII Health Disparities Council (HDC)
AWARD DATE: Applicants will be notified immediately after HDC decisions, and funding is required to be spent within three months of award.
Eligible Investigators: Any faculty member or postdoctoral fellow at the University of Hawaii or affiliate health system in Hawaii. Projects currently funded by Ola HAWAII through grant-supported research or pilot projects are ineligible given these awards include core use funding. Given the emphasis on support for early-stage investigators or those focusing on a new line of research, PIs with major funding (such as through R01, P20, P30, or U54 awards) also are ineligible for the CoreBucks Program.
Priority will be given to projects meeting more than one of the following criteria with an emphasis on
Health disparities research. New or early-stage investigator or postdoctoral fellow who has or will be applying to NIH or other national funding agency
Established investigator with lapsed funding who has submitted an application to NIH or other national funding agency
Interdisciplinary collaborations between investigators from different academic disciplines or units at UH
